They say you don't truly die till someone says your name for the last time, which was why the richest person on earth wrote her name in giant laser-illuminated letters on the moon. Objections from preservationists and astronomers were swiftly overcome with the brute force that money allows, as her cancer progressed. Perhaps someone even richer would rise and dismantle the letters—each a thousand miles tall, like California and Oregon combined—but not yet. Garish, one might say, yet necessary for immortality. She asked to be carried outside one last time to observe her name above the heavens, where it belonged.
