Telomere

They're genetically engineering the telomeres—the part of each chromosome that ages—out of embryos now. The more the practice catches on, the fewer people on earth age or die. In fact, having a child who ages is considered a type of abuse. So we're a secret community, deep in the woods, who birth our children without any engineering, any intervention. Soon, our kids will be the only people on earth who die naturally anymore. To us, the fact that life doesn't last forever is what makes it precious. Some of our children may well resent it, but we pray they're grateful.
